Founded by Arno Niepraschk in 1981, A & A International began as a small company primarily engaged in the European Retractable Awning market. The concept of retractable awnings for patios and decks was relatively new in the early eighties. Much time and effort was spent building awareness of the product. The company met with surprisingly strong success as interest was generated through displays at large home shows and through mall displays. During the course of the next few years, Hurricane Shutters were added to the company product line, along with various other types of awnings for the home market and commercial market. In 1988, A & A expanded in the Northern Virginia area. The company then added commercial awnings and canopies to its product list. A & A also began selling products on a wholesale national level. The company had grown to approximately fifteen employees in an 8000 square-foot facility. During the next ten years the company made great efforts to promote commercial awnings, helping customers understand that awnings can add signage, lights, and protection to a building. A&A's commercial and residential awnings and canopies are constructed to achieve the highest standard of quality, while incorporating excellence in appearance and functionality. Residential awnings both retractable and stationary, began to grown increasingly in popularity. The public became aware of the advantages of utilizing retractable awnings as a shade protection system. Incorporating inside or outside operation with crank or motor increased the convenience of these attractive products. Homeowners also realized that awnings over front doors and windows added dimension and style to their home, as well as saved money on energy costs. During the course of the early 90's, growth continued steadily, with new markets added. Up to this point, A&A International's coverage area had included the Outer Banks of North Carolina, running up along the coast of Virginia through the Tidewater and Hampton Roads area. A & A then began to expand through the Peninsula to Richmond and up into Northern Virginia and Southern Maryland. A&A International also made great efforts to promote Roll shutters in the oceanfront communities, since this product offers near-ocean homeowners an affordable and easy to use way of providing protection for doors and windows from damage during strong storms. Since Roll shutters could also provide security privacy, insulation and water protection, they had become increasingly more accepted and popular for the home and commercial markets. By the end of the 1990's, they had installed over fifteen thousand units in the Virginia Beach/Outer Banks area and continued to increase sales dramatically as product awareness increased. By the beginning of the 2000's, the staff was running as approximately 25 employees in a 18,600 sq. ft. building. They continued to offer a wide variety of awning and canopy products in the commercial and residential markets as well as the expansion of the Roll shutter market. In early March, 2007, Mike McDonald was approached by Arno and Mike Niepraschk with an offer to buy the company from them. Mike McDonald had worked for A&A International as a Sales Rep. for 10 years prior to this point and was well versed and very knowledgeable in the workings of the company. Based on this experience and his insight into the marketplace, Mike McDonald decided to accept the owners offer to sell the company to him. In June of 2007, he incorporated himself into A7A Acquisition, Inc., researched and created his business plan, and on November 15th, 2007 he closed on the purchase of A&A International. The new company, A&A Acquisition, Inc., will still be recognized as A&A International in the marketplace and will continue to operate as it always has in practice and in theory (ie. Same products, same employees, same business format, etc.) We will continue to aggressively market our products throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and into the wholesale/national level. We appreciate all of your hard work and we look forward to the many years ahead, offering quality products and striving to build strong customer relationships.
