Between them, the companies manufacture, supply and install a wide range of concrete products to the building and civil engineering industry throughout Ireland and the UK. Shay Murtagh commenced business in a factory unit at Joristown, Killucan, Ireland. In November 1982, the company purchased a precast concrete factory premises on a fourteen acre site at Raharney where their offices are now based. In earlier years Shay Murtagh (Precast) Ltd. manufactured and supplied concrete wall panels for installation of water storage reservoirs and sewerage treatment tanks. It also manufactured precast concrete bridge beams, industrial Concrete frame buildings, watermain Concrete road furniture and a range of small precast for the general construction and housing market.

Cherry Drainage Pipes was established in 1969 by David Cherry for the manufacture of concrete drainage pipes. The company grew quickly and by the mid 70's Cherry Concrete Pipes were available throughout Ireland. What began with a single concrete pipe machine in a small out building; moved to a purpose built factory on a 20 acre site close to Dungannon. In the mid 90's the company began production of HDPE drainage systems, whilst continuing the manufacture of concrete drainage pipes, as technology developed and market trends changed the demand for HDPE drainage systems increased and in 2006 the decision was made to cease production of precast concrete pipes and concentrate on the expansion and development of HDPE pipe manufacturing. Cherry Drainage Pipes manufacture a single wall land drainage system, a twin wall surface water drainage system and a twin wall cable duct system from high quality reprocessed HDPE. Until 2008 the recycled material used in the manufacturing of Cherry Pipes was sourced from a variety of suppliers throughout Europe. However as the company grew and expanded the potential benefits of processing their own raw material were realised, and so Cherry Polymers was established with the acquisition of Irelands largest NIR (Near Infra Red) plastic bottle sorting plant.
